Without question, the roles of manhood are changing rapidly and dramatically in our society today. As women continue to make progress in all segments of society it changes the dynamic of the male roles in our culture. For most men this is extremely difficult to embrace. Too many of them are holding on to antiquated ideas about masculinity, which in turn causes confusion, anxiety, frustration and even anger.

Chapter 1
A Shift In Male Consciousness

I’d like you to take a moment and think about a very big question. When I ask the question, take a moment and really think about it before you give your answer. Are you ready? Here it is. What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing our world today?

I told you it was a big question, so, do you have an answer?

If you watch our current media you may have answered that the greatest challenge facing our world is one of these things:

Global Warming
Corporate Corruption
Religious Fundamentalism

But what if I told you that our greatest challenge isn’t even on this list? What if I told you that our greatest challenge has very little to do with this list but actually is the reason that this list exists?

Coach Michael Taylor is an entrepreneur, author, motivational speaker and radio show host who has dedicated his life to empowering men and women to reach their full potential. He knows first hand how to overcome adversity and build a rewarding and fulfilling life and he is sharing his knowledge and wisdom with others to support them in creating the life of their dreams.

He is no stranger to adversity and challenges. He was born in the inner city projects of Corpus Christi Texas to a single mother with six children. Although he dropped out of high school in the 11th grade, his commitment to living an extraordinary life supported him in defying the odds.

With persistence, patience and perseverance he was able to climb the corporate ladder of success and become a very successful mid-level manager of a multi-million dollar building supply center at the tender young age of 21. After approximately eight years, he was then faced with another set of challenges as he experienced the pain and humiliation of divorce, bankruptcy and foreclosure and found himself contemplating suicide.

Well written, humble and insightful, Lessons From a Gathering of Men provides open and honest dialogue about society’s antiquated attitudes about men, and how these antiquated attitudes make for some very unhappy and dissatisfied males who feel they are locked into the role that society has cast for them. Taylor’s book rips through the façade and gets to the heart of the matter, which is that guys have feelings too, that it isn’t all about sex 24/7 nor is it all about the fancy toys or the sports car in the driveway. It’s about men learning to get in touch with themselves by stepping outside the box society has imposed upon them. Whether the book will influence the average male to change remains to be seen. However, from a woman’s perspective, Taylor’s book tells it like it is, both emotionally and spiritually, and provides a welcome wake up call to a whole lot of men who are dissatisfied with their lives!
